Manchester City earn huge cash windfall as figures from Champions League triumph revealed

Manchester City have discovered the exact amount of prize money they accumulated during their historic UEFA Champions League triumph.

The Blues entered the history books last season thanks to a historic treble-winning season. After pipping Arsenal to the Premier League title and fierce rivals Manchester United to the FA Cup, all eyes turned to Istanbul for the final jewel missing from City's crown - the Champions League.

During Pep Guardiola's stint at the Etihad Stadium, the Blues had come so close to winning the European trophy. In May 2021, City missed out following defeat to Chelsea in the final.

A year later they suffered heartbreak at the hands of Real Madrid, losing 6-5 on aggregate in the semi-final. However, City managed to banish the ghost of Los Blancos and wrote their name among the world's elite when they beat Inter 1-0 thanks to a second-half Rodri strike.

While the glory of winning the Champions League will stay with City fans forever, they also benefitted financially too. UEFA have announced the Blues received £115m in prize money thanks to their run to the final.

This mind-boggling figure is much more than their Premier League rivals managed to amass in the competition. Chelsea received £81m, Liverpool £71m and Tottenham Hotspur were given £56m.

Clubs in the Champions League accumulate money at each stage of the competition. For each match won or drawn, clubs receive a set amount of cash which increases the further a team advances, hence why City were handed a nine-figure sum.
