Manchester Airport sends message to travellers ahead of weekend summer getaway

Manchester Airport has issued an urgent message to British holidaymakers preparing to travel over the summer.

To ensure that journeys run as smoothly as possible, the airport is asking travellers to "prepare for your airport journey in advance". This includes arriving at the appropriate time as specified by your chosen airline, selling all liquids and gels in a clear plastic bag and placing all electricals flat in the tray when going through security checks.

It comes after holidaymakers experienced extreme delays when travelling earlier this month. Manchester Airport saw queues stretch as far back to the car park. At the time, one passenger described the queues as an 'utter shambles' and the 'worst ever' they've seen.

Posting on Facebook on Friday afternoon, the airport said: "Travelling from Manchester Airport this summer? Prepare for your airport journey in advance!

"This includes allowing enough time and preparing your hand luggage for security screening. Passengers should not arrive more than three hours before their flight.

"Those who arrive earlier may be asked to wait away from the check-in area until the recommended time for passing through security. This is to reduce waiting times in both security and the departure lounge."
