Manchester Airport brothers trial LIVE as jurors deliver verdicts

The jury in the trial of two brothers accused of attacking armed police during a confrontation at Manchester Airport has delivered its verdicts today (July 30).

A trial at Liverpool Crown Court heard Mohammed Fahir Amaaz was captured on CCTV throwing 10 punches; two 'elbow strikes'; and one kick. His brother, Muhammad Amaad, was seen throwing six punches, jurors were told.

Two armed officers - PCs Zachary Marsden and Ellie Cook - were hit during the confrontation at the Terminal 2 arrivals pay station on July 23 last year, the trial was told.

An unarmed colleague, PC Lydia Ward, suffered a broken nose when she was punched in the face, jurors were told. Footage played to jurors also showed PC Marsden kicking Mr Amaaz in the face while he was on the ground after being Tasered before aiming what appeared to be a stamp at his head, the trial was told.

The officer said he was trying to 'clamp' a wire from his radio which had fallen from to the ground with his foot so he could retrieve the device. He said the stamp did not make contract with Mr Amaaz.

Police were initially called after Mr Amaaz allegedly headbutted a member of the public, Abdulkareem Hamzah Abbas Ismaeil, minutes earlier, jurors have heard. The headbutt was alleged to have happened in Starbucks inside the terminal building after the brothers picked up their mother from a flight.

The accused say they acted in self-defence and denied all the charges they face. On Wednesday (July 30), the jury returned to court to deliver its verdicts.

Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 20, of Tarnside Close in Rochdale, was found GUILTY of the assault by beating of Abdulkareem Hamzah Abbas Ismaeil.
