Manager Robbie Holden shares pride after Luncarty hit "major milestone" by earning Scottish Cup place

Luncarty manager Robbie Holden has expressed his massive pride after the Perthshire club qualified for next season’s Scottish Cup.

The Bleachers booked their ticket to the national showpiece after lifting the Cup Winners’ Shield on Saturday afternoon.

A 3-1 win against West of Scotland League side Renfrew secured the special achievement and resulted in plenty of joyous celebrations.

It was not so long ago that Luncarty, who sit third in the East of Scotland League’s First Division, had entered abeyance but commitment and determination is making them stronger than ever.

The weekend success - there would be no surprise to hear - was kick-started by a finish from striker Rhys Davies on the half hour mark.

Early in the second half Ben Scarborough, another who has found the back of the net regularly this season, doubled the advantage.

And he would wrap up the victory by chipping in with the third on 65 minutes.

Renfrew did battle right through until the final whistle and managed to pull a goal back with time running short. But it was too little too late.

Luncarty captain Danny Dobie would soon lift the trophy to the delight of team-mates, supporters and committee members.

And the realisation that they had secured a Scottish Cup place quickly started to sink in.

“I thought we were excellent from the off,” said beaming boss Holden.

“We had a determination to go and get it done and I thought the players were outstanding.

“We haven’t been at our best lately so to perform like that on such a big occasion was really pleasing.

“It’s massive for a club like Luncarty. It’s a major milestone for the club to play in the national trophy and elevates the profile of the club.

“Everyone connected with the club can be really proud.”
