Man 'with knives' seriously hurt after he's hit by vehicle with driver arrested

A man who 'had knives' in the street in Chadderton was seriously hurt after being knocked down by a vehicle.

Police said they were called to the scene on Old Lane at around 11.30pm last night (Tuesday). Officers were called to reports of a 'man with knives'.

He was rushed to hospital after being struck by a vehicle. He suffered serious injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of assault. He has since been released from custody.

Police said it was 'isolated' with 'no threat to the wider community'. Following the incident last night, Old Lane was cordoned off by officers.

It was shut between Union Street and Block Lane, according to traffic alert service Inrix. In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 11.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 23 August 2023) officers were called to reports of a man with knives on Old Lane, Chadderton.

"During the incident the man was struck by a vehicle, and he is in hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of assault and has since been released pending further enquiries.

"This is isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the community. Investigations are ongoing at this time."
