Man who punched Good Samaritan and robbed him found dead in prison
A 20-year-old who asked a man for a lift before attacking and robbing him has been found dead in prison. Simon Kubalik approached his victim while he was sat inside his car.
Kubalik, who was with a woman at the time, asked the driver if he would give them both a lift. After the victim agreed, Kubalik pubched him repeatedly.
He then stole the man's wallet and phone, Yorkshire Live reports. Kubalik was serving a six-year sentence for his crime at HMP Doncaster. But on January 16, 2025, Kubalik died in prison.
An investigation into his death is currently underway by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman, to determine the circumstances surrounding his death. Kubalik, from Beeston, Leeds, was jailed in November last year following a trial at Leeds Crown Court.
He attacked his victim on April 25, 2024. The man had been sat in his car on Harehills Lane, in the Harehills area of Leeds before Kubalik asked him for a lift to St Albans Road.
The attack left the victim with facial fractures and he needed several operations afterwards. Kubalik was identified through CCTV and was later arrested and charged.
