Man Utd now have 'window of opportunity' to sign £350k-a-week France star

Manchester United could have a ‘window of opportunity’ to sign Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Greizmann, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 31-year-old is currently at the centre of one of the most bizarre transfer dealings that is significantly limiting his playing time despite the fact he is still putting in some impressive performances when on the pitch.

Griezmann joined Atletico from Barcelona last summer on a two-year loan deal that includes an obligation to buy for €40 million (£35m) if he plays in over 50% of their games during that time.

In the deal, playing a game is set at featuring in half a match, i.e. 45 minutes, so if the France international plays a half or more in half of the games or more over two seasons, then Atleti will have to pay Barca the agreed fee.

However, the Rojiblancos appear to be determined not to trigger the clause, with manager Diego Simeone introducing Griezmann onto the pitch around the hour mark on seven occasions this season.

The Argentine tactician did hint that it was a club decision at the start of the month, though, before handing the versatile star his first start of 2022/23 last time out in the Madrid derby.

“You have known me for ten years now; I am a man of the club, and I always will be,” Simone said when quizzed on the situation.

O’Rourke believes that Griezmann will be ‘frustrated’ with the ongoing situation at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium and that United could be in line to profit from that.
