Man Utd: Video shows crazy number of chances they missed in FA Cup defeat to Middlesbrough

Manchester United were dumped out of the FA Cup on Friday night by Championship side Middlesbrough after losing 8-7 in a penalty shootout at Old Trafford.

Jadon Sancho put the home side ahead in the first half but United couldn’t hold onto the lead, with Boro midfielder Matt Crooks thumping in an equaliser in the 64th minute to level the scores.

And despite United having several clear cut chances after the goal, Chris Wilder’s side held on to take the game to penalties.

Their fourth-round exit compounds on what has been a tough season for Ralf Rangnick’s side, who have now been knocked out of both of England’s domestic cup competitions.

But while the 12-time FA Cup winners currently sit in fourth place in the Premier League and are through to the last 16 of the Champions League, their performance against Middlesbrough left a lot to be desired, with their forwards squandering multiple chances that could have secured them the win.

Per FlashScore, the stats show that United largely outclassed their opponents, having 42 per cent more possession than the northeastern side while amassing an incredible 30 attempts on goal compared to Boro’s six.

Remarkably, nine of those attempts were shots on target and 16 of their 30 shots missed the goal completely.

And a video has been posted on Twitter showing the staggering number of chances the Red Devils squandered during the match.

The compilation video, which is entitled ‘Man Utd – The Art of Missing Chances’, evidences some of the opportunities United left begging, including a missed penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo in the first half and Bruno Fernandes’ 1v1 shot against the keeper that hit the post.
