Man Utd urged to snub Mauricio Pochettino for two rival managers

Manchester United should snub Mauricio Pochettino and bring either Zinedine Zidane or Diego Simeone to Old Trafford instead.

That is the view of former Scotland and Rangers striker Ally McCoist, who has doubts over Pochettino and says Zidane and Simeone could be more suitable for the Premier League giants.

United spoke to Ajax boss Erik ten Hag last week as they look for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent replacement in the Old Trafford hot-seat.

Ralf Rangnick has been in the role on an interim basis since Solskjaer’s sacking in November but the German is not in contention for the manager’s position and will instead move into a consultancy role at the club.

Manchester United are also planning to hold talks with Paris Saint-Germain’s Pochettino but McCoist says he is ‘not sure’ about the Argentine, who enjoyed five years at Tottenham before his stint in the French capital.

Instead, McCoist can see the ‘appeal’ of Zidane and Simeone, who have both also been linked with United but are not thought to be serious candidates to take over in the summer.

Zidane won three Champions Leagues and two La Liga titles during his time in charge of Real Madrid, while Simeone has led Atletico Madrid to multiple domestic and European trophies. His side also knocked United out of the Champions League earlier this month.

‘I know people keep saying Zidane doesn’t speak English and he doesn’t want to live here, but him and Simeone appeal to me more than most of the names out there,’ McCoist told talkSPORT.

‘Pochettino, I’m not sure. He did a good job at Tottenham and he’s done an OK job at PSG.

‘With Ten Hag, to be brutally honest, I don’t know enough about him.

‘But the one thing that’s for certain is they have to get it right moving forward.
