Man Utd told Jurrien Timber is two star signings rolled into one and can transform Ten Hag team

Jurrien Timber is like a “great midfielder” playing at the back according to Rafael van der Vaart, as Manchester United chase the centre-back.

New United boss Erik ten Hag is looking to bolster his defence as it remains unclear what he will do with the options he has inherited. Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane are the senior pairing.

However, the futures of Axel Tuanzebe, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly are all uncertain. Ten Hag is therefore looking to his former club Ajax for transfer inspiration.

He wants former Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong at Old Trafford and failed with an approach for Ryan Gravenberch. And Dutch centre-back Timber is another firm target for the Man Utd boss.

According to former Premier League and Netherlands star Van der Vaart, Timber would be a great signing for the Red Devils.

“Timber is so quick, light feet, always sharp, never panicking on the ball,” the ex-Tottenham star told the Daily Mirror.

“[He is] almost like a great midfielder in defence.”

Ten Hag promoted Timber to the Ajax first team and the 20-year-old has subsequently become a star in the team.
