Man Utd: Thierry Henry calls out players after 1-1 draw v Atletico Madrid

Thierry Henry called out Manchester United’s players following Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw away at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

United struggled against Diego Simeone’s side at the Wanda Metropolitano but managed to salvage a fortuitous draw thanks to Anthony Elanga’s late equaliser.

Joao Felix put Atleti 1-0 up in the seventh minute with a superb header from Renan Lodi’s whipped cross and the home side dominated the opening 45 minutes.

Despite being outclassed for large periods of the game, however, Ralf Rangnick’s side head back to Old Trafford with a real chance of progressing to the Champions League quarter-finals after 19-year-old substitute Elanga kept his composure to finish past Atleti goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

“He is playing as though it is a dream come true, it is a joy and fun to watch him play, I wish a few other players would take him as an example and as a role model,” Rangnick told reporters, per Sky Sports, after the match. “Football is an important sport, even more so for the supporters, and it is a ball game. This is what I wish us to do especially in the second leg.”

Back in the CBS Sports studio, Arsenal and Premier League legend Henry slammed United’s players, saying it’s about time they started performing.

“The way they play is not United. It’s not the United that I know. I don’t know what it is,” Henry said.

The Frenchman added: “I don’t usually like to have a go at players but they had a teacher like Louis van Gaal, then they called [Jose] Mourinho a dictator because he was too direct with the players and they didn’t like it, then you had [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer who’s more of a dad, a nice guy, and now you have [Rangnick].
