Man Utd target Ruben Neves offers telling insight as Erik ten Hag ‘considers’ Wolves star

Manchester United target Ruben Neves has his full focus on the upcoming season with his current side Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Portuguese midfielder, who has sparkled over the last five seasons at Molineux, has been strongly linked with a move away from the Premier League club this summer. In fact, at the end of last season Neves appeared to wave goodbye to supporters and admitted he didn’t know what the future would hold.

“The only thing I can tell you at the moment is that everyone knows what football is about, what our lives are about. Our career is really short and we need to take the opportunities we have,” he said after the final-day defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

However, with just three weeks until the new campaign gets underway, Neves remains a Wolves player and is with the squad on their warm weather camp in Alicante. Neves continues to be linked with a move to Old Trafford though, particularly as the frustrating Frenkie de Jong saga rumbles on.

An initial transfer fee of £56.2million has been agreed to sign the Dutchman from Barcelona, but a deal with the player is yet to be concluded. Erik ten Hag has identified his former player as the top target of his first window in charge and he is willing to go right up until the deadline to land him .

But contingency plans are reportedly in place with Leicester’s Youri Tielemans and Neves said to be under consideration, according to The Express. Neves is showing no signs that he expects something imminent however, instead looking forward to getting off to the perfect start when Wolves’ season gets underway vs Leeds at Elland Road at the start of next month.
