Nottingham Forest supporters have been asking for James Garner to return to the City Ground, after he was left out of Manchester United's squad for their pre-season victory over Melbourne Victory.

The central midfielder is back with Erik ten Hag's side after impressing for the Reds last season as they earned promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years.

United boss ten Hag had suggested the 21-year-old would be assessed during pre-season ahead of a decision on his future. However, he was not named for a second straight fixture as the Red Devils defeated Australian side Melbourne 4-1 thanks to goals from Scott McTominay, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and an own goal.

Joe Lolley's future at Nottingham Forest looks to be in doubt, with Steve Cooper said to have informed the winger he is not in his Premier League plans.

Lolley has been at the club since 2018 when he joined from Huddersfield Town. He has scored 26 goals and registered 27 assists in 170 appearances, winning the club's player of the season award in 2019.

Nottingham Forest's chances of striking a deal to return James Garner to the City Ground have been handed a boost after Manchester United continued their own transfer business.

Garner, 21, has spent the last year and a half at the Reds and played a key part in helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years. He made 69 appearances during his time in the East Midlands, scoring eight goals and registering 10 assists.
