Man Utd's £94m transfer joy thanks to agent at heart of Cristiano Ronaldo chaos

Manchester United have agreed two deals this summer thanks to the help of influential agent Jorge Mendes after a thaw in their relations.

Mendes had a fallout with the club after client Cristiano Ronaldo's acrimonious exit from Old Trafford in 2022, compounded by the infamous interview he conducted with Piers Morgan. But he's already helped United's new transfer team secure the signature of Leny Yoro, and they're now on the brink of announcing Manuel Ugarte too.

Yoro's arrival in a £52million move from Lille suggested the once fiery relationship had cooled, and the expected £42m signing of PSG's Uruguayan midfielder Ugarte seems to confirm that the fallout from the Ronaldo episode is now well in the past. He's set to be United's fifth summer acquisition, joining Yoro, Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee and Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

The Red Devils had identified their midfield as a weak point and Ten Hag first targeted the 22-year-old back in June. Unsurprisingly, the Uruguayan's employers slapped a £51.1million price tag on their prized asset, a fee that United were reluctant to match.

Fast forward a few weeks and the tide appears to have turned. With his replacement, Joao Neves, already signed, PSG have now lowered their demands.
