Man Utd: Rio Ferdinand's analysis on why David Moyes failed at Old Trafford from 2018

David Moyes will forever look back on his time at Manchester United and wonder what might have been.

Truth be told, the current West Ham United boss looked like a measured appointment on the back of Sir Alex Ferguson’s 2013 retirement in the interest of maintaining a long-term vision at Old Trafford.

Despite being handed a six-year contract upon his succession, the Scot only made it as far as April of his debut season with the Red Devils sinking from winning the Premier League title to a seventh-place finish.

All in all, it was a pretty disastrous transition from the Ferguson era, which United are still feeling the reverberations of now with Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer failing to pick up the pieces.

But as much as Moyes’ United tenure has become something of a punchline, his failure at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ is more baffling than you might think when you consider his Premier League pedigree.
