Man Utd protests: When supporter went viral for falling off net at Old Trafford

A number of Manchester United fans are readying themselves for a fresh protest against the ownership of Glazer family at Saturday’s home fixture against Norwich.

However, organisers have promised there will be no repeat of the ugly scenes that caused the postponement of a Premier League clash with Liverpool last May.

On that occasion, a pre-match protest aimed at United’s American owners in light of plans to join the highly-controversial European Super League.

The planned peaceful demonstration, though, escalated considerably when an angry group of United supporters overwhelmed security and forced their way inside Old Trafford and on to the playing surface.

Fans later clashed with police officers who were attempting to remove them from the stadium. Amid the anarchy, it was soon clear that the Liverpool clash would have to be postponed on safety grounds.

Of course, no matter what issues fans might have with their owners, behaviour like this can never be condoned – and karma quickly caught up with one pitch invader when he took a spill that saw him go viral on social media.

As chaos reigned around the ‘Theatre of Dreams’, the supporter concerned somehow found his way on top of the netting of the goal at the Stretford End.

Appearing to make himself comfortable atop of the net, the young fan even pulled out his phone to capture a few videos of his stunt.

Disaster wasn’t far away, however, as he was sent flying when another fan walloped a ball into the bottom corner of the goal.

Sky Sports were on hand to document the incident, too, with the broadcaster having their cameras firmly trained on the goal in question at the time.
