Man Utd now 'interested' in 'prolific' £25m striker at Old Trafford

Manchester United are ‘definitely’ interested in signing in-demand Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The highly-rated 21-year-old has made an impressive start to the season after becoming the main man at the Estádio da Luz, catching the eye of several top teams from across the continent.

Ramos was heavily linked with a switch to Wolverhampton Wanderers over the summer, but a formal offer never materialised and he ended up staying put in Lisbon.

Since then, the Portugal Under-21 international has thrived for Benfica, benefitting from Darwin Nunez’s big-money move for Liverpool.

A recent report from The Sun revealed that United are contemplating a £25 million offer for Ramos in the upcoming January transfer window despite the fact he has a £100m release clause written into his contract.

However, the Red Devils are far from the youngster’s only admirers, with Newcastle United and Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich also listed amongst his potential suitors.

Ramos’ existing deal doesn’t expire until the summer of 2026, though, meaning any hopes of securing his signature for a bargain price could be abruptly cut short.

Jones has confirmed to GiveMeSport that Ramos is ‘a player of interest’ to United and that he could fit the bill of what the club and Erik ten Hag is searching for.

He said: “He is a player of interest, and we know that Liga Nos is proving itself as a great breeding ground for new Premier League talent.

“United will want someone who is hungry to make a name for themselves but who also is not a huge gamble or a huge price-tag. Ramos is definitely interesting.”
