Man Utd 'not acting like big club' over De Jong at Old Trafford

Manchester United have been slammed as ‘not strong enough’ ahead of the 2022-23 season amid a frustrating summer window by transfer insider Dean Jones.

Erik ten Hag has been preparing his side for the return of Premier League football this summer but will be hoping to strengthen his squad further ahead of the September deadline.

After a bitterly disappointing 2021-22 season, many United fans were no doubt expecting their new manager to ring the changes this summer but that has not materialised.

Only three new faces have arrived at their Carrington training ground prior to the start of the new season in the form of Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen on a free transfer.

Meanwhile they have bid farewell to Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Edinson Cavani, Nemanja Matic and Andreas Pereira, leaving gaps to fill in the squad.

A new midfielder appears to be a top priority with Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong the prime target and seemingly far ahead of any other contender.

It has previously been reported that the two clubs had agreed a £63 million fee for the Netherlands international, but with De Jong not all too keen on signing for the Red Devils and Chelsea now providing competition, the deal looks to be on increasingly shaky ground.

A striker is also high on the agenda with Cristiano Ronaldo attempting to force an exit before the window shuts. Ajax ace Antony a target along with Red Bull Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko.

The transfer insider has slammed the summer business of the Red Devils.

He says that compared to the likes of Barcelona and Chelsea they have been nowhere near aggressive enough in their approaches and need to improve.
