Man Utd news: Donny van de Beek's subtle dig as January transfer backfires

Donny van de Beek aimed a subtle dig at Manchester United after playing the full 90 minutes for new club Everton.

The United midfielder joined Frank Lampard's side on transfer deadline day in order to gain some much-needed first-team football and impressed as the Toffees beat Leeds United 3-0 on Saturday.

And speaking after the game, he made reference to his time at Old Trafford in an apparent jibe at his parent club.

It comes after Cristiano Ronaldo ended his six-game scoreless streak to help Manchester United claim a 2-0 win against 10-man Brighton.

And one of the club's few pieces of business in the January transfer window already appears to have backfired.

United managed to put their recent record of giving up leads behind them as they claimed a 2-0 win over Brighton.

United took the lead early in the second half when Scott McTominay’s tackle fell to Cristiano Ronaldo, who picked the ball up 30 yards out and darted forwards, cutting past Adam Webster and firing beyond Robert Sanchez from the edge of the box.

The game was settled deep into stoppage time when Paul Pogba took a quick free-kick and Bruno Fernandes collected the ball inside his own half, racing forward before firing home.

It was an exciting match that was full of talking points – including half-time boos and a big sending-off.
