Sir Alex Ferguson has dramatically thrown his backing behind Carlo Ancelotti as Manchester United consider their options for the club's next permanent manager.
The Red Devils have appointed Ralf Rangnick on an interim basis until the end of the season, when the German is expected to move into a consultancy role with the club, following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earlier this season.
Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino is still the club's preferred choice, although they could appoint Ancelotti if new United CEO Richard Arnold decides to follow Sir Alex's advice.
It could be the second time Sir Alex has interfered with the club's managerial appointments after David Moyes' unsuccessful spell in charge following the United legend's retirement.
The report comes as Manchester United's eye-watering total manager compensation bill since Sir Alex Ferguson left has been revealed.
