Manchester United chiefs have told the players that Erik ten Hag is to become the club’s new manager, according to a report.
The Red Devils are closing in on bringing the Ajax boss in from next season onwards. Ralf Rangnick remains in interim charge at Old Trafford, but his spell in the dugout got worse on Tuesday.
Indeed, the 4-0 hammering by Liverpool at Anfield was another sour result. It left pundits such as Gary Neville claiming that the players want the season over now. Neville also claimed that the squad has given up on the race for fourth place in the Premier League.
As a result, there was further clamour for Man Utd to give clarity on their manager situation.
According to the Daily Mirror, United chiefs have told the players that Ten Hag is to become the new boss.
The 52-year-old will enter the final year of his Ajax contract at the end of this season. The Red Devils have therefore pounced and have agreed to pay compensation to the Eredivisie club.
Ten Hag has made an impressive name for himself at Ajax. The Dutchman led the club to the Champions League semi-finals in 2019, before agreeing to let go of some of his star players.
Nevertheless, his team has remained competitive through a rebuilding process and that has added to Ten Hag‘s stock.
