Man Utd, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona: Who's won the most trophies in 21st century?

European football has long been dominated by the same age-old institutions.

The global brands of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, and a few very exclusive others are simply too much for the rest of the game to keep up with.

And as a result, throughout history, they have raced away in terms of the quality of their football and their ensuing trophy hauls from many of their domestic rivals.

Well, each nation usually has a small number of teams steeped in rich domestic and European history.

In Spain, the obvious two and arguably the most dominant of all throughout the entirety of football’s history are Real Madrid and Barcelona.

If you look over to Germany then you would settle your gaze firmly on Bayern Munich.

Italy? Then you want Juventus or one of the Milan clubs.

France? Slightly more of a tricky one given Paris Saint-Germain’s modern rise to stardom under the ownership of the Qatar state, but you could narrow it down to five: PSG, Marseille, Saint-Etienne, Monaco and Lyon.

Whilst with England, you’ll probably be well aware that Man United and Liverpool are way out ahead historically. However with the emergence of Chelsea, Man City, and most recently Newcastle as financial powerhouses, their positions at the top could be under threat at some point in the future.

But that’s all historical. Why don’t we get a better idea of how things are panning out more recently by analysing which clubs have been the most successful since the turn of the century.
