Man Utd 'keeping informed' over £250k-a-week striker at Old Trafford
Manchester United have ‘asked to be kept informed’ over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s situation, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
The 33-year-old is available for transfer despite only arriving at Barcelona from Arsenal in January and has been heavily tipped to make a return to the Premier League this summer.
David Ornstein of The Athletic reported that Chelsea ‘made a proposal worth £15 million’ for Aubameyang but are yet to reach an agreement with Barca.
And the transfer expert has now stated that the west London outfit are ‘having second thoughts’ about signing the Gabon international as they are concerned about achieving a value-for-money deal.
Ornstein also states that United have been ‘keeping tabs’ on Aubameyang alongside Chelsea as they assess their options in case Cristiano Ronaldo seals a late exit from Old Trafford.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is reportedly being offered to Napoli by his agent Jorge Mendes as he searches for a club that is playing in the Champions League this season.
Aubameyang still has three years remaining on his £250,000-per-week contract at Camp Nou, though, meaning Barcelona are unlikely to let him depart cheaply.
Sheth has told GiveMeSport that Aubameyang is firmly on United’s radar, yet they are aware that Chelsea are ‘very strongly’ into the clinical marksman as well.
He said: “We know that United have asked to be kept informed, shall we say, on a number of players. One of those players includes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
“We know that there is an interest there. Quite how strong that interest is, is debatable, but we do know that they are just being asked to be kept informed on his situation because we also know that Chelsea are very strongly into Aubameyang as
