Man Utd ‘join’ Newcastle United in tussle for €30m-rated defender, player’s ‘priority’ revealed
According to reports, Man Utd have ‘joined’ Newcastle United in a tussle for Lille defender Sven Botman, who is rated at around €30m.
The Magpies were keen to sign the defender during the January transfer window. This move did not come to fruition though.
The 22-year-old has played 79 times for Lille since the start of the 2020/21 campaign. He has also featured seven times for the Netherlands.

Newcastle United and AC Milan have previously been the clubs linked with the defender.
TuttoMercatoWeb (via Sports Witness) are reporting that Newcastle are still ‘serious’ about Botman.
But it is said that Man Utd are among the teams who have ‘joined’ the race to buy the Dutchman.
It is believed that Botman will cost clubs €30m. AC Milan have a deal in place to sign him but they have to wait until their takeover is completed before they finalise the deal.
The report adds that for Botman, ‘the priority remains AC Milan, but without the acceleration, he could decide to go elsewhere soon’.
Elsewhere, Anton Ferdinand has claimed that Man Utd youngster Anthony Elanga is the only player who tapped into the experience of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Portuguese superstar Ronaldo returned to the club last summer after 12 years away from Old Trafford.
Much was made about his return and whether he had made a good impact on a United side that went from second in the 2020/2021 season to sixth this season.
