Man Utd: 'Inspirational' 30-cap star 'excited' over Old Trafford move

Manchester United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is “excited” to have made the switch to the Theatre of Dreams, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 30-cap Slovakia international became Dean Henderson’s replacement at Old Trafford when he arrived on loan from Newcastle last week and Jones reckons the experienced stopper is thrilled to get his move.

According to Sky Sports, United paid a £2m loan fee for the £38,000 per-week star and have an option to sign him permanently next summer, which would cost them an additional £6m.

United were in the market for a backup goalkeeper throughout the summer window after Henderson joined Nottingham Forest on loan, with Dubravka’s late arrival finally filling the gap in Erik ten Hag’s squad.

Dubravka, once described as ‘inspirational‘ by ex-England keeper Paul Robinson, was in the squad for the first time against Arsenal and will be hoping to put pressure on David de Gea for the number one spot.

Despite the majority of his time with United likely to be spent on the bench, Jones claimed that the 33-year-old is delighted to have made the switch.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Dubravka is excited to be joining just as the club look to turn the corner and put the difficulties behind them.”

Unfortunately for Dubravka, due to the World Cup, the Carabao Cup third round takes place in November this term instead of the usual September dates, which could delay his first outing in red.

But in better news, United’s sixth place finish last season means they’re in the Europa League and get underway against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford on Thursday.
