Man Utd identify new transfer plan – and could stop Antonio Conte landing top target

Manchester United are reportedly chasing Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries, and it could inadvertently stifle Antonio Conte's pursuit of Alessandro Bastoni.

Tottenham have already signed Ivan Perisic from Inter this summer as Conte begins to raid his former side, and now the Italian is looking to sign highly-rated defender Bastoni. Inter are open to selling both stars, but would only want to let one go if at all possible.

They would prefer to sell Dumfries if it means that they can retain the services of Italian defender Bastoni, according to Calciomercato. Which means if United can land the Dutch full-back, it could hand Conte with a massive blow.

Erik ten Hag has now taken charge of United, and has already been quick to make changes at the club. The majority of the backroom staff have been refreshed, and United are reportedly chasing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, as there could be a second Dutch revolution at the club.

Louis van Gaal brought multiple Dutch players to United in 2014, and it looks as though Ten Hag could do the same, as Dumfries is the latest star to be targeted from his homeland. Dumfries has impressed this season since making the £12.3m move from PSV last summer, and has since attracted interest from United and Bayern Munich.

Although Dumfries has only just arrived, they are focusing on other targets, and could use the money to reinvest elsewhere. And they are reportedly already tracking cheaper alternatives, as they brace themselves for a sale.
