Man Utd 'genuinely interested' in 'world-class' 115-goal star at Old Trafford
Manchester United are “genuinely interested” in bringing Christian Eriksen to Old Trafford this summer, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.
The Denmark international will become a free agent once his Brentford deal expires later this month and he’s been linked with a move to United.
According to the Mirror, the Red Devils recently joined both Brentford and Tottenham in the race for the midfielder, who helped Brentford secure a respectable 13th place finish on their Premier League debut.
Eriksen, described as ‘world-class‘ by Thomas Frank, chipped in with one goal and four assists in just 11 appearances, although one of his standout displays came in the Bees’ 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford last month, in which he made more key passes than anyone else (2).
The report claims that while Brentford have made him an offer to become their highest paid player, incoming United manager Erik ten Hag has been ‘hugely impressed’ by Eriksen’s ‘desire’ and his form on the pitch.
United are down on midfield numbers following the departures of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata and Crook reckons they’re serious about bringing the 30-year-old, who has 115 club goals to his name, to the Theatre of Dreams.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think the interest is genuine because they need to strengthen in that area. You might ask how do Bruno Fernandes, De Jong, I know he’s a slightly more deep lying midfielder, and Eriksen all get in the team, but it’s a squad game and the problem for United is the players coming off the bench haven’t been good enough.
“I can see them pursuing Eriksen, but equally I can see him in a Spurs shirt.”
