Man Utd: 'Decision now imminent' over £375k-a-week star's Old Trafford future

Manchester United are set to make an ‘imminent decision’ over whether David De Gea has a long-term future at Old Trafford, according to journalist Dean Jones.

De Gea joined the Red Devils from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid for a fee of £18.9million more than a decade ago, but it appears his time with the club could be coming to an end.

De Gea has entered the final 12 months of his £375,000-per-week contract, although there is an option for Manchester United to extend the agreement by a further year.

While the Red Devils could take advantage of the caveat in the goalkeeper’s current deal, the Telegraph have revealed they are weighing up whether they should.

The report suggests the 20-time English top flight champions’ wage bill reached a Premier League record £384million for last season and their financial situation will dictate how they act over De Gea.

With doubts over the 31-year-old’s future, Manchester United have reportedly made Atletico shot-stopper Jan Oblak a priority target.

The Red Devils are also considering a move for Everton star Jordan Pickford as boss Erik ten Hag continues to scour the market for a potential new number one.

Jones believes targeting the likes of Oblak and Pickford demonstrates Manchester United are assessing their options ahead of taking advantage of the one-year extension option written into De Gea’s contract.

The transfer insider feels the Red Devils will make a final decision over the Spaniard in the not-too-distant future.
