Man Utd decide ideal makeweight to land Darwin Nunez in £100m transfer package

Manchester United are prepared to make Andreas Pereira the ideal makeweight as part of a deal to bring Darwin Nunez to Old Trafford.

The Benfica star is one of Erik ten Hag's top targets as he prepares to bolster the squad. There will be plenty of action in the transfer window this summer at the Red Devils.

Much is down to necessity with so many departures already confirmed, including Juan Mata, Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani. The latter has left United down to the bare bones with a striker now being eyed by the club this summer.

Several have already been mentioned as potential arrivals including Richarlison, Lautaro Martinez and Nunez - but it the last name that has attracted the most attention. The Uruguay international has been in stunning form this season.

The 22-year-old has scored 34 times in 41 appearances and has been linked with several other clubs including Real Madrid, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain. According to the Independent, Benfica has priced Nunez at £100million.

That would be absolutely out of United's remit as they look to bring in a number of players and such a sum would be a significant blow to their transfer warchest. As such, the Red Devils have a plan with Ten Hag picking an ideal star that could be used to bring down the price.

Pereira has been brought up as a potential makeweight for a transfer with Benfica willing to come to the table. The Brazilian has spent the season on loan at Flamengo, where United's own scouts were impressed by his development.
