Man Utd: 'Confident' £86m star now 'ready for lift-off' at Old Trafford

Manchester United star Antony has made the ‘perfect start’ to his Old Trafford career and is ‘ready for lift-off’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Red Devils secured a fourth win on the bounce by overcoming Arsenal on Sunday and their deadline day arrival played a key role in the victory.

Manchester United took their summer spending beyond the £200million mark when they completed the £86million acquisition of Antony in the final hours of the transfer window.

Just a matter of days after making the switch from reigning Eredivisie champions Ajax, the nine-cap Brazil international wasted no time in making an impact.

Erik ten Hag threw Antony straight into his starting line-up when Arsenal headed to Old Trafford at the weekend, emphasising that his pressing capabilities could help to nullify the visitors’ threat.

The winger handed his new employers a 35th minute lead by curling a shot past Gunners goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale and became the 21st Manchester United star to find the back of the net on his debut.

Ten Hag was full of praise for Antony after the 3-1 triumph and was particularly keen to point out the 22-year-old is ‘brave’ on the pitch.

Jones believes Antony could not have hoped to have made a better start to his Manchester United career.

The transfer insider feels the Brazilian is brimming with confidence and the best is yet to come with the Red Devils.

Speaking after Antony’s goalscoring debut, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “It was the perfect start, absolutely.

“He’s built his platform, it feels like, and now he’s going to be ready for lift-off. You can see he’s confident.”
