Man Utd: £84m striker 'would be interested' in Old Trafford move

Manchester United could pull off a ‘great signing’ by bringing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen to the club this summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks as incoming manager Erik ten Hag plots a significant overhaul of the first-team squad.

According to Italian outlet La Repubblica (via Sport Witness), United ‘have already come forward’ with an offer of €100 million (£84.4m) for Osimhen as they look to bolster their forward line.

Serie A legend Gianluca Aztori has previously stated that the Nigeria international reminds him of a younger version of Edinson Cavani, and it’s not difficult to see why.

As per WhoScored, both Osimhen and El Matador can call upon their finishing prowess and heading ability as two of their key strengths while their discipline is often a weakness.

And in the 2009/10 season, when Cavani would have turned 23, he registered 15 goals and two assists in 37 appearances for Palermo.

While Osimhen has found the back of the net on 17 occasions and set up a further six strikes in just 29 outings for Napoli in the current campaign, showcasing his potential to emulate Cavani’s success.

When asked about the comparisons between the two marksmen and the links between Osimhen and United, O’Rourke stated that the 6 foot 1 ace ‘would be interested’ in a move to Old Trafford.

He told GiveMeSport: “If you could find a young Edinson Cavani right now, it would be a great signing for any club. He was a prolific striker in his heyday.
