Man Utd: 58-cap duo 'not alternatives' to Antony at Old Trafford

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has not identified Cody Gakpo and Christian Pulisic as ‘alternative’ options in case Antony fails to complete a switch to Old Trafford, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The Red Devils bagged their first win of the season earlier this week, with goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford being enough to secure a 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Liverpool, but ten Hag could bolster his squad ahead of the September 1 transfer deadline.

Manchester United have been frustrated in their attempts to sign Antony as an offer worth close to £68million was rejected by Ajax last week.

It is the second time where the Red Devils have failed to strike a deal for the nine-cap Brazil international as their initial proposal – which totalled £51million – was turned down in July.

Manchester United have reportedly added PSV Eindhoven star Gakpo to their list of targets, although the winger’s current employers are seeking £35million for his services.

It has been claimed that the Red Devils are continuing to hold negotiations over the seven-cap Netherlands international and Antony even though the addition of both attackers has been ruled out.

Meanwhile, ten Hag is considering taking Pulisic on loan from Premier League rivals Chelsea ahead of the transfer window slamming shut.

Sheth understands why it has been perceived that ten Hag will only acquire Gakpo or Pulisic if a move for Antony fails to come to fruition.

However, the Sky Sports reporter believes that is not the case and has refused to rule out multiple deals being concluded.
