‘Man United wonderkid believes he’s the best in the world at his age – that’s his mentality'

Manchester United have a future star on their hands if one former Arsenal academy coach's claim is anything to go by.

Teenage prodigy Chido Obi Martin made the switch from the Gunners to United in October after wowing observers at Arsenal's academy with several standout displays. The formidable striker was quickly rising through the youth ranks in north London, notching up hatfuls of goals, highlighted by his remarkable 10-goal haul in an under-16 match against Liverpool.

Yet, the young Dane decided to leave behind the capital for the prospects of honing his skills in Manchester. Paul Aladejare, former head of recruitment for the under-12 to under-14 age groups at Arsenal, is well acquainted with Obi-Martin and thinks that the player's choice to transfer might prove to be a significant blow for Mikel Arteta's squad.

"He believes he is the best player at his age group in the world," Aladejare said. "That is his mentality." It was Aladejare who first came across Obi-Martin following a tip-off about two Danish siblings who had moved to the UK with their family, reports the Mirror.

After just 20 minutes of observing Obi-Martin in his inaugural scouting task, Aladejare was on the phone with his superiors at Arsenal. As reported by The Athletic, he said to his bosses: "You have to get here right now and man-mark this kid's mum. There are scouts from every club in London asking who he is and where he has come from."
