Man United told Erik ten Hag is 'one of the best coaches' but they have bigger problems to solve

Manchester United have been told they have 'bigger problems' to solve aside from changing their manager after Erik ten Hag was announced as their new boss on Thursday.

The current Ajax manager will remain in the Netherlands until the end of the campaign before taking on his new role at Old Trafford. He has signed a deal until 2025 but there is an option for his stay to be extended by a further year.

Excitement is building around United with most fans and pundits in agreement that Ten Hag is the best option for the position. But according to former Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt, a change of manager alone will not solve the club's problems.

He told This is Anfield: "I think [Ten Hag] is probably one of the best coaches around now. So it is pretty interesting to see how he will do now at Manchester United. Peter Schmeichel said it well last week in the media, there are bigger problems at Manchester United than only changing the manager.

"So hopefully for Erik ten Hag, the structure of the club gets better so he can perform. For me, it’s okay if he performs as long as Liverpool do better. Ten Hag is a really good coach, and he has some experience now.

"He has built up his career at Bayern Munich. He went to a bigger club in Holland, FC Utrecht. And [he] also managed Ajax – where he did really well, not just in the league but also in the Champions League."
