Man United's Maya Le Tissier lifts lid on Champions League 'dream' and England aim

Manchester United defender Maya Le Tissier says getting the opportunity to represent the Reds in the UEFA Women's Champions League is "what dreams are made of".

Le Tissier was a standout performer for United last term, having arrived at Leigh Sports Village from Brighton in July 2022. She was an ever-present in the Reds' back line as Marc Skinner's side secured a second-place Women's Super League [WSL] finish and reached the FA Cup Final.

While United ultimately finished the season without any silverware, the club secured Champions League qualification for the first time in their history, and Le Tissier can't wait for the new season to get underway.

"I’m so excited," she told the MEN. "We obviously did everything we could last season and fell just short so we want to go one further this season.

"To be in the Champions League is what dreams are made of. I can’t wait to walk out to the Champions League anthem and to be a part of this team."

Le Tissier's impressive domestic form last term also caught the eye of England boss Sarina Wiegman, who handed the 21-year-old her first senior cap for the Lionesses against Norway in December. The defender was also named in England's standby squad for the Women's World Cup, and she says the experience of travelling out to Australia to help the Lionesses prepare for this summer's tournament has given her extra motivation to cement a starting spot in Wiegman's squad.

"I really enjoyed my time out there with all the girls," she said. "It was just nice to be a part of something, and to see how well the girls are doing now after all the preparation they put in and all of the talk is great.
