Man United, Liverpool Chelsea: How much each PL club over or underpaid on transfers

Premier League clubs really did make merry in the recently concluded summer transfer window as they splashed the cash on countless new recruits.

In total, an astonishing £1.9 billion was spent by clubs in the English top flight – more than La Liga, Serie A and the Bundesliga combined.

With the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United all landing blockbuster deals to smash transfer records left, right and centre, the total transfer bill was always going to be eye-watering.

Couple that with the likes of Nottingham Forest signing a small army of footballers and you begin to understand why the Premier League outstripped its rivals by such a gaping distance.

But who got the best and the worst of the summer deals? Well, thanks to some very handy work from the Online Betting Guide and Transfermarkt, we can answer that very question.

Using Transfermarkt’s valuations of the various stars that were snapped up, they were able to work out who overpaid and who underpaid the most during their summer business.

Rather alarmingly, the extensive data revealed that just three clubs managed to get true value for their money as only Manchester City, Aston Villa and Fulham were calculated to have underpaid.

Conversely, fans of the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton and West Ham might want to look away as they were found to have overpaid for their gaggle of new stars by a substantial amount.

Well, well, well… Manchester United might be on an upward curve, but they’ve certainly had to pay for that priviledge.
