Man United hold 'talks' over Ivan Toney as Ben Chilwell and Raheem Sterling updates emerge

Manchester United have reportedly held initial talks with Brentford over Ivan Toney as a late swoop is being considered.

The England international's future has been the subject of speculation all summer after Toney made it clear last season that he wanted a 'big move.' The 28-year-old has been considered as an option to bolster United's attacking options before Friday's transfer deadline.

While the Evening Standard have reported 'preliminary conversations' have taken place between clubs, it's said securing a move to Chelsea remains the forward's priority. Negotiations are 'not yet' at a serious stage and United are yet to make a formal offer but Brentford are hopeful that any interest could prompt a bidding war.

Chelsea on the other hand, are thought to be considering making an offer after Al-Ahli have had an initial bid rejected for the forward. Toney has been left out of Thomas Frank's squad for the first two Premier League games and the Bees boss admitted there was 'a lot going on' with the player in terms of transfer interest.

Brentford meanwhile, could be forced to settle for a deal some way below their initial £50million asking price or risk losing Toney for nothing next summer.

Elsewhere, United are reported to have stepped up talks with Chelsea over a potential move for Ben Chilwell. The clubs have been locked in negotiations over Jadon Sancho and Raheem Sterling as both attempt to resolve remaining squad issues in the last couple of days left of the transfer market.
