Man United finally get Mathys Tel transfer green light in huge boost after Patrick Dorgu 'agreement'
Manchester United have just one more league phase fixture to play in the Europa League before looking ahead to the next round.
United will face Steaua Bucharest on Thursday night as they aim to maintain a spot in the top eight of the competition. The Reds are fourth in the table and can still finish as high as second if results go their way, but are also not guaranteed to finish in the top eight.
Finishing eighth or higher will allow United to avoid the play-off round and progress straight into the last-16 stage. Victory against Bucharest would confirm that reality, and by the time the next round arrives, Ruben Amorim may have some new signings in his squad.
The January transfer window remains open until Monday, giving United time to get deals over the line to bring new players to Old Trafford for the second half of the season. Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu is a target for United and could become the first signing of the Amorim era.
The Manchester Evening News reported on Tuesday that United remain in talks to sign Dorgu and hope to get a deal completed before the deadline. Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that United have agreed a deal worth an initial €30million (£25million) fee plus a further €5million (£4.2million) in add-ons.
Dorgu may not be the only player United hope to sign before the transfer window closes. Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has claimed that United are interested in signing Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel, but only if Alejandro Garnacho or Marcus Rashford were to leave the club.
Garnacho has been heavily linked with a move away from United this month, with Chelsea and Napoli mentioned as potential destinations. Rashford's future has also been the subject of speculation in recent months.
