Man United face tight deadline for next transfer after Leny Yoro to solve three-year issue

Luke Shaw joined Manchester United 10 years ago as a 19-year-old with the world at his feet after over 65 senior appearances for Southampton.

A fee in the region of £30m made him the most expensive teenager in world football at the time. He has played 275 games for United since, but his career at Old Trafford has been plagued with injuries.

He failed to make more than 25 appearances in his first four seasons after a combination of muscle injuries and a freak double fracture of his right leg in 2015. The England international made 40 appearances in 2018/19, 33 in 2019/20, 48 in 2020/21, and 47 in 2022/23 in somewhat of a turn of fortunes.

Since moving to Manchester, he has missed a jaw-dropping 1,328 days of football, totaling over 3.5 years and 273 games (according to Transfermarkt). After hardly playing for Erik ten Hag's side last term, Shaw returned to action at Euro 2024 with three appearances for England.

There will be hope that the 29-year-old can once again become a mainstay in United's defence for the new season, despite the fear of another setback. Talk of a new left-back being signed by Dan Ashworth this summer has been a popular debate among supporters.

At times last season, Diogo Dalot filled in, and the Portugal international did superbly on the other side of his natural position, and that method could prove vital once again. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has attracted interest this summer, and should the English defender leave the club, a new right-back will become the priority, and the Reds already have their dream profile.
