Man United Erik ten Hag sack answer speaks volumes as Ineos handed next manager verdict

Manchester United are faced with a huge dilemma over Erik ten Hag which Ineos are struck with.

The Reds are currently in the midst of their worst-ever start to a Premier League season with little signs of improvement. Ten Hag's side are 14th in the top-flight table after seven matches, which follows their eighth-placed finish last term - their lowest since the 1989/90 campaign.

But there appears to be no sign of a change in Ten Hag's position at Old Trafford. Club bosses met last Tuesday in London for a lengthy meeting, and it appeared that the Dutchman could be in trouble, but no announcement has been made.

And the results of a recent Manchester Evening News poll indicate why a change of manager has yet to take place. Of over 12,000 readers, Thomas Tuchel and Zinedine Zidane were the top options if Ten Hag left, but the third biggest response was none of the above, which gained 16 per cent of the vote.

That's why finding a replacement appears to be so difficult for Ineos. The options available do not inspire confidence in their ability to succeed in one of the biggest and most high-pressure jobs in football.

United were not blessed with options in the summer when Ineos considered making a change after the FA Cup final. And that hasn't changed with no stand-out candidate currently available.

The two leading options in the MEN's poll also have drawbacks. Tuchel has managed in England before but wasn't a resounding success in Germany with Bayern Munich.
