Man United 'could lose' 152-goal duo this summer

Manchester United could end up offloading both Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Both veteran strikers have been linked with moves away from Old Trafford in recent weeks after struggling to make an impact on the pitch and could seek a new challenge ahead of next season.

Ronaldo returned to the Red Devils following a 12-year absence to much fanfare back in August, and it was hoped he could transform them back into Premier League title contenders.

However, after making a fast start to life in the red half of Manchester, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has looked laboured of late, scoring just once in his last 10 outings in all competitions.

And according to the Sunday Mirror, the United hierarchy are now prepared to let Ronaldo depart in the summer after accepting sanctioning his comeback was a mistake driven by both ‘commercial factors and the determination to stop him joining rivals Manchester City’.

Cavani, on the other hand, enjoyed a very successful maiden campaign with the 20-time English champions last term, bagging 17 goals and laying on six assists in 39 appearances.

But the Uruguay international has struggled with a series of injuries this time around, limiting him to just six Premier League starts and three goal contributions across all competitions.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Cavani is set to depart United when his contract expires in June, with his preferred destination being a club in Spain.
