Man United could land huge Mason Greenwood transfer 'windfall' as Manuel Ugarte 'talks' emerge

Marseille are very confident of getting a deal over the line to sign Mason Greenwood - but Manchester United are set to include a big sell-on fee in any potential transfer.

Greenwood held talks with United officials at Carrington on Monday but did not train with his team-mates on the first day of pre-season. The 22-year-old, who impressed while on loan at Getafe last season, has been told he has no future at Old Trafford. Charges against the England forward of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023. Greenwood last featured for United in January 2022, during a 1-0 victory over West Ham.

After scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in 36 appearances last season, Getafe wanted to keep Greenwood at the end of his loan spell. Atletico Madrid and Barcelona were among the others interested in him. But now, Roberto De Zerbi's Marseille looks set to win the race for Greenwood's signature. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Ligue 1 side have sent a formal bid to United for the attacker.

Talks are underway between United and Marseille over a potential deal that is said to be worth around £25million plus add-ons and a substantial sell-on fee - reported to be up to 40 to 50 per cent - though a loan deal with an obligation to buy at the end of the season has been discussed. Marseille are said to be 'really confident' on getting a deal done, with Greenwood their priority summer transfer target.
