Man United Champions League clash against Galatasaray thrown into doubt after Istanbul downpours
Galatasaray vs Man United is in jeopardy as torrential rain in Istanbul refuses to relent.
Erik ten Hag's side are bottom of Champions League group A and need a positive result in Turkey to keep their hopes of a last 16 berth in tact. But they might not get the chance to do so on Wednesday, as the Daily Mail claim pitch inspections have been taking place at Rams Park.
As of this minute, it is still a playable surface but the rainfall which has been heavy is not looking like letting up between now and kick-off at 17:45. There are "enormous" puddles forming across the playing surface amid the rain and thunderstorms. UEFA officials are confident that the match will be able to go ahead but more water will be absorbed in the next couple of hours. It means the situation is subject to change and United will be keen for the game to go ahead.
Article 27.01 of the UEFA regulations states any postponed game in an ideal world will be played the next day. Newcastle visit Old Trafford on Saturday.
United's youth side have already shown their senior peers what the rain is like to play in during a 1-0 loss to the Turkish talents on UEFA Youth League business. Their game was played at the Recep Tayyip Erdogan Stadium in Kasimpasa.
