Man United are closer to solving £47m problem thanks to two players

It's difficult to remember the last time Manchester United reached a summer transfer window without needing to offload plenty of players.

Nine departures have already been confirmed this summer after the club released their retained list, and that figure will undoubtedly swell over the coming months. Partly because there are a handful of players who have already been told they have no future at the club, and partly because United need to raise funds to sanction the deals needed to improve their squad.

Moving players on is never an easy task, and so United have their work cut out for them this summer as they look to offload the likes of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho to name just a few. But their task might have just been made a little easier.

As revealed by the Manchester Evening News on Friday, Jadon Sancho is prepared to settle for a move to Italy after Chelsea decided not to buy him. Sancho looked destined to make his temporary move to Stamford Bridge permanent in a £25million deal, only for the Blues to pay a £5m penalty fee to wriggle out of their obligation to buy him.

United require a fee of £14.58m to avoid a loss on Sancho under the Premier League's profitability and sustainability regulations (PSR), and while he didn't exactly put himself in the shop window with three league goals in the 2024/25 season, United should be able to find someone willing to pay a £14.58m fee for a player who is showing an eagerness to move on.

Antony's situation as a little more complicated by the need for United to recoup £32.58m to avoid a loss under PSR. That being said, his impressive loan spell at Real Betis in the second half of the season has seen him create a market for himself.
