Man takes birthday cake to restaurant – and can't believe what he's served

A lot of people like taking their own cake to a restaurant if it's a birthday celebration.

However, one man named Ryan was left stunned when he asked his homemade sweet treat to be brought out during his friend's birthday dinner.

Ryan, a foodie from New York, US, who shares his recipes online, said he had put in '5-6 hours of hard work' to make his friend a 'funfetti' cake as a birthday present which he could take along to their meal at a steakhouse and present to him. The 25-year-old took to his @ryannordheimer to share his tale in a video, and it's certainly captured the attention of people all across the internet, going viral on the app as well as on other social media sites.

In the clip he can be heard saying: "So for context, I make a birthday cake for all of my friends for their birthdays." He then shared a photo of himself with his 'funfetti' cake, adding: "As you can see, they're not small. This is a massive cake – at least twice the size of my head."

He then went into more detail about what happened on the night, saying: "We went to the restaurant and I handed the cake to the hostess, they take it in to the back and we have a great dinner."

Ryan then shares a photo of his friend with the cake, saying: "Then it's cake celebration time, they bring out the birthday cake, put a candle in it and we all sing 'Happy Birthday'. Again you can see how big this cake is compared to my friend so it's not small."

He then reveals that he had called the restaurant ahead of time to ask if he could cut the cake, but they said it was a "safety hazard". This meant they took the cake back
