A man stole a customer's car from a 'rogue' Manchester Airport meet and greet car park - and then drove it to pick up his colleagues from CUSTODY.

Those jetting off abroad from Manchester often book in at the cheaper, unofficial car parks, that police say are typically just 'muddy fields' - but an important warning has been issued by Cheshire Police after increasing reports of incidents, including cars being damaged and keys being lost during the summer holidays.

In one incident - a day after two members of staff at a car park had already been arrested following reports of a customer being threatened with a knife, another worker reportedly stole a customer's car and then used it to pick up his two colleagues from custody.

The incident first unfolded on August 12, when a customer reported that they had been threatened with a knife after challenging staff over the safety of a minibus vehicle being used to transport people to the airport from the unofficial Moss Lane car park in Styal.

Police attended and two men aged 21 and 52, were arrested on suspicion of affray. However, the following day, August 13, police discovered a customer's car was then used by a third man to travel to the Middlewich Custody Unit to collect his colleagues.

The 48-year-old was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

It comes as police issued an important warning to holidaymakers on Wednesday (August 16) about the dangers of using a number of 'rogue' car parks if travelling from Manchester and that many of them have 'no affiliation' with the airport.
