Man stabbed in the neck and gun fired in attack on Manchester street

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after being stabbed in the neck in south Manchester.

Police responded to reports of a disturbance in Eliza Street, Hulme, at about 3.40am today (Monday, February 7).

A gunshot was fired and a 49-year-old man was stabbed, say officers.

Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital with a stab wound to the neck.

He remains in a serious condition. No arrests have been made.

A number of residents reported hearing a 'loud bang' before police descended on the street.

A cordon was in place on Eliza Street and nearby Royce Road throughout Monday morning.

Images showed forensic officers working at the scene, while a tactical aid unit combed a patch of grass behind a block of flats.

Police left the area shortly before midday.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 3.40am on Monday 7 February 2022, police were called to reports of a disturbance on Eliza Street, Manchester.

"Enquiries have established that a firearm was discharged and a 49-year-old man was stabbed.

"Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital with a stab wound to the neck. He remains in a serious condition.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
