Man's 'extremely questionable' behaviour after leaving partner, 31, injured at home for 33 hours before she died

A mum who suffered a head injury after an 'unexplained' fall did not receive medical attention for 33 hours before her death, an inquest has heard. 'Caring' hairdresser Amy Louise Harper collapsed at her home following an argument with her partner, Matthew Cowley.

The inquest heard how the 31-year-old had been found intoxicated from alcohol by Matthew on January 8, 2021, when he returned home from work. Matthew said this was not unusual but the pair had an argument before he slammed a door, which broke some glass.

He told the coroner how he then heard a 'big bang'. Amy was found on her back on the kitchen floor, Yorkshire Live reports.

Matthew said he had been unable to rouse her but said she was breathing. Later he had placed a blanket over Amy and left her on the kitchen floor while he went to bed.

The following morning, Matthew said Amy was still on the floor and had wet herself. He said he had changed Amy and had placed her on the sofa where she stayed all day.

In the early hours of the following day, at around 5am, Amy began vomiting and Matthew said he noticed she was not breathing. He phoned 999 and started CPR before paramedics confirmed that Amy had died.

The inquest, held yesterday, heard that West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team launched an investigation into the circumstances of her death on January 10, 2021.

The cause of death was head injuries. Experts said the injury could have led to 'fluctuating' levels of consciousness which may have accounted for neighbours hearing shouting from the property.

Detectives spoke to their neighbours in Birkby, Huddersfield, checked databases and discovered there
