Man rushed to hospital with serious injuries after Piccadilly Gardens attack

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was attacked in Piccadilly Gardens in the early hours.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed police patrols in the areas around the gardens in Manchester city centre have been stepped up as a result.

The man, 27, was rushed to hospital from the scene with injuries described by police as 'serious', but not believed to be life-threatening. It's been described by detectives as 'an isolated incident, with no threat to the wider public'.

No arrests have been made and detectives have issued an appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

The force said officers and emergency services were called to reports of an assault in Piccadilly Gardens at around 1.15am on Wednesday morning. No further details have been revealed and the nature of the man's injuries haven't been further described.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 1.15am this morning (Wednesday 14 June 2023) Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of an assault in Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester.

"A 27-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but they are not believed to be life threatening."

Detective Inspector Mark Astbury, of GMP City of Manchester district, added: "We would like to reassure the local community that we have extra officers deployed in the area, if you have any concerns, please speak to them, they are happy to help.

"This is believed to be an isolated incident, with no threat to the wider public.
