A man has been left with life-changing injuries after a 'sickening' attack in a park in Old Trafford.

Emergency services were scrambled to Penn Park, the grassed area between Chorlton Road and Maher Gardens, at around 3pm on Monday (September 12). Police found a man with 'horrific injuries' at the scene.

He was taken to hospital where he remains with life-changing injuries. An investigation into the attack is now underway.

Detectives are working to establish the full circumstances of the incident and are asking any witnesses, or anyone in the local area who knows anything, to come forward. Detective Inspector Chris Mannion of GMP’s Complex Safeguarding Team in Trafford said: "This is a sickening attack on an individual that has left him with some horrific and ultimately life changing injuries.

"We would like to hear from anyone in or around the local area on Monday to understand if they saw or heard anything leading up to the call we received in the afternoon regarding the welfare of a man. We have been working around the clock this week to unpick the circumstances regarding this serious assault and will continue to explore all available lines of enquiry over the coming days."

Anyone with information can call 0161 856 7525 or 101 quoting log number 1983 of the 12/09/22. Alternatively details can be passed on anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
